Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins
一乗谷城
The castle was on the mountaintop; the lord, his retainers and townspeople lived on the valley floor below. An entire Sengoku-era castle town came out of the ground here.

朝倉孝景(初代)
The first head of the Asakura family of Ichijodani, who used the upheaval of the Onin War to become the warlord ruling all of Echizen Province. A later, fourth-generation head had the same name.
Late in life he left his son and grandson a 17-article set of family rules. It urged them to have senior retainers live together in Ichijodani, to promote people for ability rather than lineage, and to train talent within the province, and later heads of the family followed this approach. Eirinzuka, said to be his grave, stands on the hillside behind the Asakura residence site.
