一乗谷城
The castle was on the mountaintop; the lord, his retainers and townspeople lived on the valley floor below. An entire Sengoku-era castle town came out of the ground here.

朝倉義景
The fifth and last Asakura head at Ichijodani. He welcomed and entertained the future shogun Ashikaga Yoshiaki at Ichijodani, but lost his war with Oda Nobunaga; in 1573 the Asakura were destroyed and the town of Ichijodani was burned.
In spring 1568, Yoshikage is said to have invited Yoshiaki to a poetry party under the cherry trees at Nanyo-ji, the Asakura family's convent, and to have feasted him lavishly at the Asakura residence. But he did not escort Yoshiaki to Kyoto, and Yoshiaki turned instead to Nobunaga, who made him shogun. In 1573 Nobunaga's troops are said to have burned Ichijodani for three days and nights.
