浅野長直
First Asano lord of Ako. He moved from Kasama in Hitachi in 1645 with a 53,500-koku domain and spent thirteen years from 1648 building Ako Castle.
He entrusted the design to his retainer Kondo Masazumi, a scholar of the Koshu school of military science. He also favored his senior retainer Oishi Tanomonosuke Yoshishige, granting him a mansion in the second enclosure, where the exiled scholar Yamaga Soko later lived for more than eight years.
