福島正則
A warrior who served Toyotomi Hideyoshi from childhood and one of the famed "Seven Spears of Shizugatake." He sided with Tokugawa at Sekigahara and in 1600 became lord of Aki and Bingo provinces, based at Hiroshima Castle.
He was rebuked for repairing Hiroshima Castle, damaged by a great flood in 1617, without notifying the shogunate. Having failed to fully carry out the conditions imposed, such as tearing down the new work, he lost Hiroshima in 1619. His retainers, on his instructions, handed over the castle in good order, and their conduct was later held up as a model for retainers of dispossessed lords.
