伊勢宗瑞(北条早雲)
Founder of the Hojo clan of Odawara. His move into Odawara began a century in which five generations of the Hojo dominated the Kanto region.
Around 1500 (the city's cultural properties division says from 1496 onward) he took Odawara Castle, which then grew as the Hojo clan's main seat. He did not call himself Hojo Soun during his lifetime; the Hojo surname is said to have been adopted by his son Ujitsuna.
