A son of Hojo Ujiyasu of Odawara. He married into the local Fujita family and expanded Hachigata Castle into the Hojo base for ruling the northern Kanto.
In 1590, during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's campaign against Odawara, Hachigata was besieged by the northern army of Maeda Toshiie and Uesugi Kagekatsu. After more than a month, Ujikuni surrendered on June 14 on condition that his soldiers' lives be spared.
