The massive keep base still stands, yet whether a keep was ever built on top of it is still an open question.

黒田長政
Eldest son of Kuroda Kanbei and first lord of the Fukuoka domain. He played a major part in the Tokugawa victory at Sekigahara, received almost all of Chikuzen Province, and built Fukuoka Castle from 1601.
As a boy, known as Shojumaru, he was sent as a hostage to Oda Nobunaga and placed in the care of Hashiba (later Toyotomi) Hideyoshi. A document has been confirmed in which he told a retainer to repair the railing of Fukuoka Castle's keep because it had rotted.
