楠木正成
A warrior from Kawachi in the late Kamakura and early Nanboku-cho periods. He fought the Kamakura shogunate on the side of Emperor Go-Daigo and built Chihaya Castle in 1332.
In the 1333 siege of Chihaya, the Taiheiki says he dropped rocks, logs and boiling water from the cliffs and used straw dummies to fake attacks, and the castle is said never to have fallen. He later died by his own hand after defeat at the Battle of Minatogawa.
