Takaoka Castle
高岡城
More than a third of the castle site is water: moats dug 400 years ago still lie in the middle of town in almost their original shape.

前田利長
Eldest son of Maeda Toshiie and second head of the Maeda family of Kaga. He sided with the Tokugawa around the Battle of Sekigahara, and after retiring he built Takaoka Castle in 1609 and founded the town of Takaoka.
About 30 of Toshinaga's letters about building Takaoka Castle survive (over 50 counting copies). Most urge the work to go faster, and the museum notes that the rush seems to have caused a finished stone wall in the main enclosure to collapse.
