Became lord of the 30,000-koku Imabari domain in 1635, the first of the Matsudaira (Hisamatsu) lords, whose family ruled Imabari until the Meiji era.
In 1665 Sadafusa was appointed keeper of Edo Castle in the shogun's absence and given an extra 10,000 koku in the Kanto region, bringing the Imabari domain to 40,000 koku.
