宮本武蔵
Celebrated swordsman of the early Edo period. Edo-period local histories say he laid out the street plan of Akashi's castle town when the castle was built.
The Akashi-ki, a local history compiled in the 1716–1736 Kyoho era, records that a samurai named Musashi laid out the town. Inside the castle, the Yamazato bailey held the Jumoku Yashiki, a pleasure garden for the lord that Musashi is said to have designed.
