Story

After its buildings were torn down in the Meiji era, the Morioka Castle site lay neglected until Iwate Prefecture began turning it into a park in 1906. Designed by Nagaoka Yasuhei, it opened that year as Iwate Park, and at its centenary in 2006 it was nicknamed Morioka Castle Ruins Park.
