A warrior who served Tokugawa Ieyasu and later became a senior retainer assigned by the shogunate to the Owari domain. In 1617 the second shogun, Hidetada, granted him Inuyama Castle, beginning the Naruse family's rule there until the end of the shogunate.
The keep is said to have taken its present form through improvements made while he was lord.
