Rokkaku Sadayori

六角定頼

Head of the Rokkaku family, governors (shugo) of Omi Province. He led the family at the height of its power and was deeply involved in shogunate politics. Kannonji Castle is thought to have been rebuilt with extensive stone walls from around his time onward.

Story

He backed the 12th shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiharu, after Yoshiharu was driven out of Kyoto. For several years around 1532 the shogun stayed at Kuwanomidera, a temple at the western foot of Kannonji's mountain, where he even held his wedding and received a steady stream of dignitaries from the capital.
