柴田勝豊
Nephew of Shibata Katsuie, one of Oda Nobunaga's leading generals. Given Toyohara in Echizen, he is said to have moved his base and built Maruoka Castle in 1576. He left Maruoka in 1582 to become lord of Nagahama Castle in Omi.
A legend says that when Maruoka Castle was built, the keep's stone base kept collapsing until a human sacrifice was made. A memorial to O-Shizu, the woman said to have been buried there, stands on the castle grounds.
