清水宗治
Lord of Bitchu Takamatsu Castle on the Mori side. Besieged by Hashiba Hideyoshi's water siege in 1582, he took his own life in exchange for the lives of his garrison.
Offered the two provinces of Bitchu and Bingo by Hideyoshi, he refused and stayed with the Mori. His suicide on June 4 sealed the peace and the castle was handed over. His head and body mounds and other memorials remain around the castle site.
