護佐丸
An early lord (aji) of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Born at Yamada Gusuku, he became lord of Yuntanza and helped Sho Hashi unite the three kingdoms. He built Zakimi Castle and later, on royal orders, moved to Nakagusuku, where he added the third and north enclosures.
Tradition says that when a royal army led by Amawari attacked in 1458, Gosamaru saw through the plot but refused to fight the king's forces. He entrusted his infant third son to a nurse to escape and took his own life with his wife and children.
