本多忠政
A hereditary Tokugawa vassal who moved from Kuwana in Ise to become lord of Himeji in 1617. He extended the third enclosure, the Nishinomaru and other areas, completing the castle as it appears today.
His son Tadatoki married Princess Sen, daughter of the shogun Tokugawa Hidetada. Tradition says the ladies-in-waiting serving her lived in the Nishinomaru's Hyakken corridor, from which she prayed toward Mount Otokoyama each morning. Tadamasa was also closely involved in building Akashi Castle for his son-in-law, Ogasawara Tadamasa.
