大石良雄(内蔵助)
Chief retainer of the Asano house of Ako. After lord Asano Naganori was forced to commit seppuku and the house abolished in 1701, he led the former retainers in the December 1702 raid on the Kira mansion, an event retold ever since as Chushingura.
After the incident, Oishi and the retainers met in council in the palace of Ako Castle's main enclosure; the palace is gone, but its floor plan has been recreated on the ground. A wooden tag bearing the name Oishi Kuranosuke was excavated from a pond in the honmaru, and the gatehouse of his residence is a National Historic Site.
