藤堂高虎
A warrior from Omi Province renowned as a master castle builder. Trusted by Tokugawa Ieyasu, he received Iga, part of Ise and other lands in 1608 and greatly rebuilt Iga Ueno Castle.
After serving Azai Nagamasa, Oda Nobusumi and Hashiba Hidenaga, he became lord of Uwajima under Hideyoshi and, after Hideyoshi's death, a trusted ally of Ieyasu. At Iga Ueno he reshaped the castle to face Osaka and built stone walls about 30 m high.
