前田利家
A warlord born in Arako, Owari Province (today's Aichi Prefecture), who served Oda Nobunaga. Granted Noto in 1581, he became lord of Kanazawa Castle in 1583 and built its keep and high stone walls. He was the founder of the Maeda family of Kaga.
Toshiie sided with Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi at the Battle of Shizugatake and took over Kanazawa Castle from the defeated Sakuma Morimasa. A sealed order of his from June 1586 directs the shipment of iron for building the keep. That keep burned after a lightning strike in 1602, after Toshiie's death.
