International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL)
A citizens' network of NGOs from around the world calling for an end to landmines. It was the driving force behind the 1997 Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Treaty), and received the Nobel Peace Prize the same year.
Activities
It urges governments to join and implement the Mine Ban Treaty, informs the world about the harm caused by landmines, and defends the rights of victims. Its research arm, Landmine Monitor, publishes the most trusted annual report on the world's landmine problem. Today it works together with the Cluster Munition Coalition as ICBL-CMC.
Achievements
It played a major role in the negotiation and conclusion of the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty, and that same year received the Nobel Peace Prize together with its founding coordinator, Jody Williams. (Target year: 1997) [Ref 0047][Ref 0048]
In 2011, it merged with the Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) to become ICBL-CMC, continuing both the landmine and cluster munition campaigns. (Target year: 2011) [Ref 0048]
Cambodia's own campaign, the Cambodian Campaign to Ban Landmines and Cluster Bombs (CCBL), sits on its governance board, and Cambodian landmine survivor Tun Channareth serves as an ICBL ambassador (as of 2026). (Target year: 2026) [Ref 0047]
