Peace Boat and Cambodia

A journey became a doorway to learning again

I visited Cambodia with Peace Boat and encountered the landmine issue and the country’s history first-hand. What I felt there stayed with me strongly, but when I looked into it again after returning home, I realized there was far more background than fragmentary memories could tell, and many figures that needed checking.

This site starts from that experience, while its history, statistics and organization information are a database for learning again, based on sourced references. It is built not as a travel advertisement, but as a record that connects first-hand experience with public data.

How the visit led to this site

  1. Visit the countryIn Cambodia, learn that the landmine issue and history are connected to everyday life today.
  2. Questions remainStart looking into why the landmines were left, who is clearing them, and how Japan has been involved.
  3. Check the sourcesRead materials from governments, international organizations and NGOs, and separate personal stories from factual information.
  4. Build the databaseOrganize regions, timeline, statistics and sources so the next learner can follow them.

Visit records

The travel notes are being written. Records of the Peace Boat visit to Cambodia will be published with photos. For now, links to the videos and note articles already published elsewhere are collected on my visit records page.
