Kratie
A province in eastern Cambodia with its capital, Kratie, on the Mekong River. Its population in the 2019 census was about 375,000. Mine clearance is complete, but unexploded ordnance contamination from US bombing remains.
Landmine situation
The completion of mine clearance in the province was announced, bringing the number of provinces declared mine-free to 15 of the 25 (2025 report). (Target year: 2025) [Ref 0084]
UXO situation
One of the eight eastern provinces with serious contamination by cluster munition remnants (CMR) from US bombing during the Vietnam War. The baseline survey (2009-2018) recorded about 82.4 km2 of CMR contamination and about 34.5 km2 of other unexploded ordnance contamination; together with Stung Treng, it accounts for about half of the CMR contamination in the east.
