Centrostephanus rodgersii
タスマニア東岸ではケルプ林を「バレン（不毛地）」に変える侵入種として扱われ、約150種の海洋生物を追い出すとされる。2016年からタスマニア・アワビ協議会が除去のための補助金制度を設け、潜水漁業者に1kgあたり2〜5豪ドルを上乗せしている。食材として売ることが、そのまま藻場対策になる数少ない例。On Tasmania's east coast it is treated as a range-extending pest that converts kelp forest into barrens and displaces some 150 other marine species. Since 2016 the Tasmanian Abalone Council has run a subsidy paying divers an extra A$2–5 per kilo to remove it — one of the few cases where selling an urchin as food is itself the habitat measure.

海水温の上昇でロングスパインド・シーアーチンが南下し、東岸の15%以上がバレン（不毛地）になったと報告されている。2016年からタスマニア・アワビ協議会が除去補助金を設け、潜水漁業者に1kgあたり2〜5豪ドルを上乗せしている。「食べることが海を戻す」という論理が、日本以外で最もはっきり制度化された場所。Warming has carried the long-spined urchin south, and more than 15% of the east coast is now reported as barren. Since 2016 the Tasmanian Abalone Council has paid divers an extra A$2–5 a kilo to remove it. This is where the logic of eating an urchin in order to restore a reef has been institutionalised most clearly outside Japan.
