Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC)
Cambodia's largest mine action organization, clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance under the Cambodian government. Since it began work in 1992, it has continued making dangerous land safe across the country.
Activities
It surveys minefields and releases land, clears landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO), provides risk education and training on the dangers of mines, and conducts research and development on clearance technology. It also works with mine detection dog teams, develops clearance machines, and engages in victim assistance and community support.
Achievements
From June 1992 to June 2023, it made about 1,616 square kilometers of land contaminated by landmines and explosive remnants of war safe and returned it to the people. (Target year: 2023) [Ref 0037]
It has found and destroyed a total of 596,168 landmines (582,417 anti-personnel mines, 11,374 anti-tank mines, and 2,377 improvised mines) (cumulative total through June 2023). (Target year: 2023) [Ref 0037]
