Japan-Cambodia Landmine Initiative
A framework launched in July 2024 for Japan and Cambodia to advance mine action worldwide together, toward a world free of landmines.
Overview
Foreign Minister Kamikawa announced it on July 6, 2024, during her visit to CMAC, together with a comprehensive package for mine action support. It strengthens cooperation through four pillars: (1) raising awareness of the inhumanity of landmines and building international momentum, (2) creating an international cooperation team at CMAC, (3) Japan-Cambodia joint support for demining in third countries, and (4) developing equipment using the latest technology.
Outcomes
The Third Integrated Mine Clearance and Mine Victim Assistance project (1.700 billion yen), signed in January 2026, is positioned as cooperation that gives concrete form to this initiative. (Target year: 2026) [Ref 0056]
