Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan
The government ministry in charge of Japan's diplomacy. Through ODA (Official Development Assistance), it has supported mine action in Cambodia since 1998.
Activities
It provides grant aid to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) — equipment, human resource development, research and development, and facility construction — along with Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects, and carries out diplomatic activities related to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Treaty).
Achievements
Since 1998, Japan has provided a total of 19.9 billion yen in grant aid to strengthen CMAC's capacity and for other purposes (as of April 2026). (Target year: 2026) [Ref 0051]
In July 2024, Foreign Minister Kamikawa visited CMAC and announced the launch of a comprehensive package for mine action support and the Japan-Cambodia Landmine Initiative. (Target year: 2024) [Ref 0055]
In 2021, Japan provided minefield survey equipment (200 million yen) to the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA). (Target year: 2021) [Ref 0051]
