Watch — the Atami Bay fireworks
The Atami Bay fireworks are held more than a dozen times a year. The remaining 2026 dates are 12 October (Mon, holiday), 25 October (Sun), 8 November (Sun), 23 November (Mon, holiday), 6 December (Sun) and 25 December (Fri), then 21 February 2027 (Sun). Shows run 20:20–20:40 (from 20:15 in July and August). Watch from anywhere along the shore between Sun Beach and Atami Port; there are no paid seats in fiscal 2026.
By Atami Station you'll find the free Ieyasu-no-yu foot bath and the station-front public bath (¥500 adults), so you can soak before walking down to the sea. The road from the station to the shore is steep, and both are crowded on fireworks nights.
Watch — Yunokawa in Hakodate, and winter in Gero
Photo information
Hakodate's Yunokawa Onsen fireworks are launched each summer, after the Obon holiday, from the mouth of the Matsukura River out over the Tsugaru Strait, with a hot-water offering rite at Yukura Shrine. The 2027 date has not been announced. Yunokawa is about 31 minutes by tram from Hakodate Station.
In Gero, Gifu, 'Hanabi Monogatari' lights up winter Saturday nights. In 2026 it ran every Saturday from 10 January to 28 March, from 20:30 for about 10 minutes on the Hida River bank below Gero Bridge, free to watch. The 2027 dates had not been announced when we checked.
Set them off — no official programme is taking bookings now
Photo information
Noboribetsu Onsen has advertised a hands-on fireworks experience on its official site: after the 'Oni Hanabi' show at the Hell Valley observation deck, participants dressed as demons held cold-spark hand-held fireworks. It was for ages 18 and over, 18 places, ¥5,000 per person including the show. However, the listed dates were October–November 2024 and January 2025, and we could not confirm any run from 2026 onward, so we do not treat it as bookable.
An evening of hand-held fireworks for guests in an inn garden or on a riverbank is listed as an idea only. It is not scheduled and cannot be booked.
