米国太平洋岸で商業的に漁獲される3種のひとつ。近年は「除去したウニを畜養して商品にする」再生養殖の対象として注目されている。One of three species commercially harvested on the U.S. Pacific coast, and now a focus of ranching schemes that fatten removed barren urchins into a saleable product.

米国のウニ漁は1970年代初め、日本市場に生殖巣を供給する目的でカリフォルニアで始まった。2015年の水揚げは3,677トンで米国最大。「ロサンゼルスから出荷されるウニは日本の輸入市場で最上とされる」とNOAAの報告書は書いている。The U.S. fishery began here in the early 1970s to supply roe to Japan. California landed 3,677 t in 2015, the largest in the country; NOAA notes that roe shipped from Los Angeles is considered the best in Japan's import market.
