Market manners
The Outer Market publishes its own rules. Here they are in plain English.
These are from the market association's own list. Following them is how you stay welcome.
- Before 9 AM, professional buyers come first. If someone is buying for a restaurant, step aside.
- Do not eat while walking. Eat inside the shop, at its front, or in a designated spot.
- Put suitcases in a coin locker. The streets are narrow.
- Do not walk in a large block. Keep children by the hand.
- Ask before taking photos of a shop. Some shops post no-photo signs.
- Do not touch the goods. Pressing fish lowers its value.
- Do not haggle. These are wholesale-priced shops; bargaining is not a custom here.
- Smoke only in designated smoking areas.
