JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)
The agency that implements Japan's ODA. Since 1998, it has provided the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) with equipment and support for organizational development.
Activities
It provides demining equipment through grant aid, strengthens CMAC's organization and develops its human resources through technical cooperation projects, and supports training for third countries (such as Ukraine and African countries) in cooperation with Cambodia.
Achievements
Thanks in part to cooperation such as the introduction of equipment, the area released from landmine contamination in Cambodia each year grew greatly, from about 10 square kilometers in 1995-1999 to about 282 square kilometers in 2023. (Target year: 2023) [Ref 0059]
Since 2010, it has hosted more than 500 people from Colombia, Laos, Angola, Iraq, and other countries, providing mine action training in cooperation with Cambodia. (Target year: 2024) [Ref 0059][Ref 0051]
