MAKING A BOOK
Can I make a book even if I can't write?
Yes. The whole service is designed so you don't have to start by writing. Talk in the AI interview and your answers become the book's raw material. The AI builds the structure and the drafts; you read, revise, and decide. What a thousand books taught us is that most people aren't unable to write — they just don't know where to start.
What materials do I need?
Anything you have on hand becomes material: notes, photos, audio, old documents, things you've posted online. Having little material is fine too — the AI interview asks questions and draws out the stories already in you.
Do you support vertical Japanese text (tategaki)?
You can choose vertical or horizontal layout in the settings. However, vertical text in print-ready PDF is currently in beta — please check the preview before relying on it. Horizontal layout is fully supported across all features.
Can I turn it into a paper book?
You can export a print-ready PDF (body and cover). Hand that file to a printer or an online print service and it becomes a paper book. BOOK:// does not do the printing itself. We can also prepare the submission files for publishing it as an Amazon paperback.
How long does it take to finish?
It depends on how much material you have and how far you polish. The AI drafts quickly, but the reading and revising happen at your pace. Some people sprint through in days; others take months and enjoy every one of them. There is no deadline.
AI & YOUR DATA
Won't the AI make up facts on its own?
The AI is designed not to add facts that are not in your material. It writes only from what you've said and the material you've uploaded. Where information is missing, it comes back to you with a question instead of filling the gap. Even so, AI text can contain errors — which is why every passage passes through your review before it's accepted. Details in
How We Use AI.
Will my manuscript be used to train AI?
No. BOOK:// uses Anthropic's Claude via API, operated under settings that keep API inputs out of foundation-model training. Your manuscripts, photos, and audio are processed only to make your book. More in the
Privacy Policy.
How is the data I upload handled?
Your manuscripts, photos, and audio are stored in your account and used only to provide the service. We don't hand them to third parties or use them for advertising (except where the law requires disclosure). You can export your project data at any time, and deleting your account deletes the data.
RIGHTS
Who owns the copyright of the finished book?
You, the user. Sell it, give it away for free, or take it to a publisher — all up to you. BOOK:// never holds rights in your finished book. Details in
Copyright & Image Use.
Can I include any photo I like?
Photos you took, or hold the rights to, are fine. Photos taken by someone else need the photographer's permission. If people appear in a photo, check with them. Images generated by other AI services should be used only after checking that service's terms. The rules for uncertain cases are collected in
Copyright & Image Use.
PRICING & PAYMENT
How far can I get for free?
With one free project you get planning, title ideas, the chapter outline, the AI interview trial, a short preview of Chapter 1, and a watermarked PDF preview. Full-book export (high-resolution PDF, EPUB, Amazon package) requires a paid plan. So you can find out whether this will become your book — before paying anything.
What payment methods are available?
PayPal. With a PayPal account you pay by balance or card; without one, you can still pay by credit card. PayPal operates in more than 200 countries and regions. Pricing is a one-time purchase per book — never a subscription.
Can I get a refund?
PUBLISHING & GLOBAL
Can I really sell my book on Amazon?
BOOK:// prepares your Amazon KDP submission package — manuscript files, cover, description, keyword suggestions, and a step-by-step guide. Registering and publishing happen through your own KDP account. Amazon reviews whether a book can be published, and we cannot guarantee sales. What we can and cannot do, we tell you straight.
Can I use BOOK:// from outside Japan?
Yes. All you need is a browser — it works from any country. Payment via PayPal is available in more than 200 countries and regions, and the interface is available in Japanese and English.
Can I make only an English edition?
Yes. You choose the manuscript language when you start, so you can make your book entirely in English from the beginning. You can also make a Japanese edition first and follow with an English one — or the reverse. Quality assurance covers Japanese and English; other languages are in preparation. Details in
Global Publishing.
What's the difference between translation and "localization"?
Translation carries the text into another language. Localization finishes the book itself for its new readers — title, cover, chapter structure, even how much explanation the text carries. The same book meets a Japanese reader and a North American reader with different assumptions, and different reasons to pick it up. See four worked examples in
Global Publishing.
ACCOUNT
Can I make a book together with family or colleagues?
On the BOOK PRO plan you can issue a sharing link so family or colleagues can follow the book and contribute as you build it. Sharing links can be disabled at any time. It suits books that gather many voices — family histories and anniversary volumes especially.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time from the studio's settings screen. After confirming your password, deletion removes your project data as well. Download any purchased export files before you delete.
